Caribbean-themed “Changes in Latitude,” Friday, October 16, 2009 from 6:30 – 11:00pm at the historic Cal Boathouse, the T. Gary Rogers Rowing Center on the Oakland estuary. Along with Caribbean influenced cocktails, food and décor, revelers will enjoy the Steel Jam steel drum band followed by dancing to DJ Stu Cornick of Savoir Faire. All food and beverages are included in the ticket price!
In order to introduce under represented Oakland youth to the sport of rowing, the Oakland Strokes is fundraising to provide Oakland youth rowing scholarships. Corporate fundraising activities will kick off with the Strokes’ first ever gala,
the Caribbean-themed “Changes in Latitude,” Tickets, available here, in advance are $100 per person.
“Rowing
is the only sport I know of that combines individual excellence with the
ultimate team effort,” says Oakland Strokes board chairman Dan Herbert. “It
teaches values and builds friendships that last a lifetime. Providing that
experience for inner-city youth in our community has become one of our top
priorities. Our ‘Changes in Latitude’ Gala fundraiser is just the beginning of our outreach efforts.”
